I very much doubt a comic book movie could win a Best Picture Oscar. The only one that would even get a nomination would be The Dark Knight Rises, and even at that, it would be awarded along the same lines as Return of the King; given best picture to reward Peter Jackson for his work.

Still, it doesn’t dampen my excitement one iota, and as far as I’m concerned those 3 movies will be my 3 favorites of the year.

I was in the same situation. Discovered through the TV Series, then got the books.
What I like the most while reading the other chapters(now at chap. 3), is you have the faces of the characters in your head, kinda makes it easier to imagine how it is while you are reading it.

Read the books man

I was exactly in the same boat as you. I opted to read as much as I can before season 2… I am 600 pages in the second book and enjoying it so much – I’ve even passed on playing Skyrim a few times in order to squeeze in more reading time.

I did find book 1 to take me a little longer to read, I think because I sorta knew where things were going, I was a little less motivated to read it. But now it’s all new material and every day I theorize on where the story is going and GRRM never ceases to surprise me.

I would say get cracking, reading, starting with book 1 if you can.

I had the same conundrum. I decided to read the first book and maybe give the second book a try. I’m on book 4 now. Shit is too good to put down. Just go for it, you won’t regret it.

Okay, in my experience, having watched the show before reading the books, at certain times I found myself a little bit bored from reading because I already know what’s going to happen. And now I’m in book 2, I find myself just zooming through the pages, and I’m still very excited to see the show. And after reading the first book, I rewatched the 1st season and I actually appreciated it more than before.
