Winter Is Here

There are many reasons I can’t wait for April.

I won’t have to scrape the inch and a half of ice from my car every morning. I can go outside wearing less than 7 layers. And, I’ll be able to rid myself of these horrible pants, and return to the shorts I love.

But mostly, I can’t wait for Game of Thrones Season 2.

I don’t think I’ve seen fantasy done so well since those first showings of The Lord of The Rings. Having never read a word of the books, I was instantly hooked and by the way, congratulations to Peter Dinklage on his well-deserved Golden Globe win!

Since the end of the first season, I’ve started reading the books and I’m as entranced by them as I was the show. However, it has brought up a bit of a conundrum. The first season of the show is based on the first novel in the series. Presumably, the second season will be based on the second novel and so on.

So, do I read book 2 before seeing season 2? Or let it pull me in the way that season 1 did?

OMFG!!! you haven’t read the books?! now seriously, I started reading the books because of the show, book one was, yeah, ok, mostly because I had already seen the serie so I knew what was coming, now book 2 was a totally different story… I will say… READ THE BOOKS!!!!!! you won’t be able to stop

Okay, in my experience, having watched the show before reading the books, at certain times I found myself a little bit bored from reading because I already know what’s going to happen. And now I’m in book 2, I find myself just zooming through the pages, and I’m still very excited to see the show. And after reading the first book, I rewatched the 1st season and I actually appreciated it more than before.

I had the same conundrum. I decided to read the first book and maybe give the second book a try. I’m on book 4 now. Shit is too good to put down. Just go for it, you won’t regret it.

I was exactly in the same boat as you. I opted to read as much as I can before season 2… I am 600 pages in the second book and enjoying it so much – I’ve even passed on playing Skyrim a few times in order to squeeze in more reading time.
I did find book 1 to take me a little longer to read, I think because I sorta knew where things were going, I was a little less motivated to read it. But now it’s all new material and every day I theorize on where the story is going and GRRM never ceases to surprise me.
I would say get cracking, reading, starting with book 1 if you can.

read the books! Then the show isn’t ruined when someone mentions how your favourite character dies in book 5…..

I was in the same situation. Discovered through the TV Series, then got the books.
What I like the most while reading the other chapters(now at chap. 3), is you have the faces of the characters in your head, kinda makes it easier to imagine how it is while you are reading it.
