My transition into something of a Apple-whore was a gradual one that I’ve talked about in this space before. I didn’t mean for it to happen, honest. It just seemed like when the time came for a new computer or phone, Apple had the best options. Couple that with how ridiculously fun the iPad is, and here I am; A bona-fide Apple shill.
What really makes the devices so great is the access to the App store. You can customize your computer, tablet or phone to fit exactly your needs, and maybe find a few interesting nuggets of fun here and there as well.
People have asked me about some of my favourite Apps, so here’s a few that I’ve found useful, engrossing or just plain old fun.
Stupid Zombies – A great game in the vein of Angry Birds, but in this one you are a Bruce Campbell lookalike, and you have to bank the shots from your boomstick in order to kill the undead. Loads of fun.
Evernote – This simple note taking software syncs with phone, computer and tablet and even has Firefox plugins that will drop websites and images right into your notes. And it’s totally free.
BeejiveIM – The best instant message App I’ve found. I can log in to Facebook, MSN and any other IM program and get real time messages from contacts. With Push, they come through like text messages, and are laid out similarly. Excellent App.
WhatsApp – In the same vein, this is a messaging app that sends messages back and forth that look and act just like Text Messages. The difference is that they aren’t text messages, and are classed as data. So they don’t cost nuthin’. The best part of this App? Its cross-platform, meaning iPhones can talk to Blackberries, and its the best of both worlds. You get the layout of the iPhone, and the ability to see if you message has been read like BBM.
Instagram – I’ve mentioned this one before too. It’s a picture taking App that has a cool social networking component, and lets you take fun, arty shots and run them through a few filters to make your photos look ulta cool and hip. Also, lots of boobies.
So there’s a few. There are hundreds more, but I have to go play more Plants Vs Zombies.
