Have you ever had one of those moments where someone uses a word that you’ve never heard, and then suddenly it seems like it’s cropping up everywhere? That happened to me today.

So, in the interest of education, and general amusement I would like to share with you this word:

solipsism |ˈsälipˌsizəm|
noun
The view or theory that the self is all that can be known to exist.
DERIVATIVES
solipsist noun
solipsistic |ˌsälipˈsistik| adjective
solipsistically |ˌsälipˈsistik(ə)lē| adverb
ORIGIN late 19th cent.: from Latin solus ‘alone’ + ipse ‘self’ + -ism .

So essentially it boils down to a really weird way to say someone or something is “self-absorbed.” Interesting. Language can be so fun! Punctuation too! Consider the following sentence:

I helped my uncle Jack, off a horse.

Compared to:

I helped my uncle jack off a horse.

See it? It’s the little subtleties that make words so fun! With that I’ll say don’t say we never learned ya nuthin’!
