As I sit here listening to the crickets chirp during the stillness of a beautiful country evening, I find myself wondering what the hell crickets really have to say anyways. I mean, yes I know that their little noise-making sessions paint a colourful soundtrack to a nice night, and also potentially attract mates, but seriously. What’s up with that?

I’m at my parent’s house right now, and for those of you not in the know, they live in a beautiful house on a lake in the northern regions of Ontario. The best part of coming out here (aside from the obvious family time that I get far too little of) is that I am required to do absolutely nothing.

Yes, there are things that need to be done, for example washing and launching the boat. But it hardly seems like work when the end result is the chance to cruise around the lake and spend some time on the water.

So for the most part, I just kinda hang out up here.

There’s the occasional campfire with the neighbours, maybe a quick jaunt into town to pick up some milk, or an old friend or two dropping by, but the vast majority of my time up here is spent reading, writing, or simply staring out onto the lake.

As fun as it all is though, it’s hard to translate into a blog post simply because it feels like I’m just relaxing and doing nothing. And yes, I did take approximately four-and-a-half paragraphs to get to the point of telling you I’m doing nothing.

So I’m going to go back to doing nothing, and while I’m engaged in it I’ll throw a thought or two your way and hope that you’re weekend was full of the great nothing that mine has been.
