Give then whirlwind of coverage that the Leno/Conan situation at NBC has garnered, I feel that it is time to weigh in on this developing story. I’ve carefully considered the facts, looked at both sides of the store, read endless articles and watched hours of videos, and the only conclusion I can come to is:
Does anyone even still watch late night talk shows?
Seriously, I can’t remember the last time I stayed up to watch Letterman or Conan or any of those guys. Jimmy Fallon? Never seen it. Carson Daly? He had a show? Really? The only reason I even noticed Leno’s move was because he replaced my beloved ER at 10pm. Maybe I’m just old, but I have better things to do at 11:30pm. Sleep, for example. But that might just be me.
In other news, it would seem that Sony hasn’t wasted any time in getting it’s new series of Spider-Man movies on the go. They’ve apparently tapped (500) Days of Summer director Mark Webb.
Now, obvious jokes about his name aside, I don’t really know how I feel about this. I have yet to see (500) Days of Summer, but it was Webb’s directorial debut. Yeah, that’s right, he’s only got one movie under his belt and now he’s behind the wheel of the biggest franchise on the Sony roster. The other thing is that he cut his teeth doing music videos. While I have nothing against music videos (Hell, the best ones are like short films anyways) I can only remember another young music video director who became a Hollywood heavyweight: McG. You know, the guy responsible for Charlie’s Angels and The OC.
Perhaps the thinking behind it is that the fresh eyes that Spider-Man needs will come from a very fresh person. I can understand that, but I’m a little concerned that things might be a little too fresh.
That said, hopefully they can come up with someone that will knock my socks off to play Peter Parker. I’ve sent in my headshots, but haven’t heard back from the studio yet. Do you think it was wise to include all those nudes?
