I guess we never really got around to paying tribute to ol’ MJ. Consider that remedied. And given the amount of Beatles stuff that’s been released lately, double points for topical reference! Score!

So guess what made it’s triumphant return to my living room last night? That’s right, FOOTBALL! I had almost forgotten about the traditional Thursday Night Kickoff. I have no idea what this season will bring for my beloved Patriots. Tom Brady is back, but in good health? Tedy Bruschi has retired, but a few key signings might be able to fill that hole. We’ll have to see, but I’m stoked my Sunday Afternoon Ritual is back in full effect!

I love football because unlike most professional team sports, football has a very limited season, only 17 games. This means that every game, every set, every play has meaning. There’s such a strategic aspect to the game that it makes watching it really like watching a movie unfold. You can see weak points and strengths on both sides of the ball, and there is no other sport that can build drama like football.

The other thing I love about the NFL is that due to their salary cap structure, every team has a shot a re-jiggering to become a contender each year. It’s anyone’s game at the beginning of the year, and it usually takes a few weeks for the leaders to emerger. Unless it’s the Detroit Lions. Those guys might as well switch to baseball.

On a completely unrelated note, Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs looks like a ton of fun. I might have to break my “No 3-D” rule for this one!

You know how you can tell that the economy is still on the downside and the advertising industry is being hard it? Coffee Crisp is re-using the “You don’t know from jokes!” commercial with the old ladies. Yikes…
