Just for the record, I would totally go see a show starring someone who had 4 puppets attached to them. It’s true, I may have a love of puppets that goes beyond socially acceptable norms (I cried at Muppet Christmas Carol), but I would be in the front row to see that show. The real question is could it still be billed as a “one” man show?
OK, so this might have only bothered me, but I gotta rant about it anyways. I was watching So You Think You Can Dance last night, (pause for laughter…… OK) and it was the 100th episode, so they were showing some of the best routines from the last 5 seasons. It was very cool to see some of those old routines and dancers, and I was really enjoying their retrospective.
But the big nut of the evening was that Katie Holmes (aka Mrs. Cruise) was supposed to be there doing a big broadway dance number… for some reason. It was hyped in promos and on the show over and over again, and was supposed to be this huge deal. So what happens? They show her routine as a taped piece on a soundstage. What? Really? All that and it wasn’t even in front of a live audience?
Now I know that in the grand scheme of things, this is hardly something to get one’s panties in a twist over. But when something is billed as such a huge deal, it’s a bit of a let down (no matter what the event). Katie Holmes has taken a lot of crap over the last few years, and I thought to myself “geez, maybe she’s going to bring something impressive and shut down her detractors.” Yeah, no. She brought mediocrity to a mediocre event.
Wow, how strange that I would use the forum for a rant like that? Then again, according to my co-hort, I’m some kind of mushy, teen-romance-loving softie. Well… he talks to dogs in baby voices! So there! Ha!
Vengeance is mine!
