Yeah, that about covers it. I might be forgetting a few things like our rich heritage and wonderful freedoms, but I think I got the important stuff, right?

Anyway, on a completely different note, I had a horrible experience at a large electronics retailer the other day. For sake of confidentiality, let’s call them Best B. No, wait, that’s too obvious… let’s go with B. Buy.

I went into the store expecting to drop some serious money on some items I’ve been needing for a while, and since I haven’t been able to solve the monitor issue I’m having with my laptop, probably a new computer too.

Instead, after being ignored by the sales staff for over 30 minutes in two different departments (for a total of over an hour of wasted time), I left somewhat empty handed and frustrated. I wouldn’t have minded being kept waiting if the store was overly busy, or there was a problem of some sort, but what I saw was sales associate after sales associate helping out people that were older than me, and making (what they presumed to be) “larger” purchases.

Now, I can admit when I dress casually, I dress casually. Baggy shorts, baseball caps, Vans creepers, and yes I have some Ink. But that doesn’t mean that I’m not going to spend money in your store. When I was leaving, I mentioned to the person at the front of the store that I was fed up with being treated this way, and he attempted to argue with me that it wasn’t the case because they don’t work on commission. Yeah? Then I’m going to a store where they do. Then I know that I’m not going to be overlooked, and my patronage will actually be appreciated, because it actually means something to the sales staff.

Y’know, they say that good service in a store causes the happy customer to tell approximately 5 of their friends about their experience. Bad service causes the unsatisfied customer to tell about 18 people. How many do you think I’ve hit here?

Happy Canada Day boys! 100% on the customer service you ran into…or lack there of. I work in Quality and since I first got into the field I’ve gotten a “banned list” (Buffalo Wild Wings, Steak and Shake”, and yes Best Buy is nearly on it. To bad they are becoming the only place to actually go to for stuff in my neck of the woods way down here in NC. Cheers!

I’m sorry to hear about your experience at Best Buy, but at least it’s good to know that Best Buy is just as horrible in Canada as it is in the States. Best Buy is pretty much the go to store for all things electronic in my area, made even more so by the recent bankruptcy of Circuit City. Now I can either choose to go to Best Buy, or to drive at minimum twice as far for equally subpar service at a smaller electronics store.

Worse still is that they really are no longer the “best buy.” I used to know that if I could just deal with crappy service, at least I was getting a deal. But with little to know competition left, they seem to have realized that there’s no reason to bother with reasonable prices. >:O

It’s funny you say that. I had the exact same thing in London when I walked in to buy my $3000 PC before heading to college.

Ignored. walked around. ignored. moved to a different area, started walking up to a kid…ignored, he ran away.
The tale had a happier ending because I needed the damn computer, but I wasn’t extraordinarily happy about it.

My sister works for B.B.H.R. I’ll see to it that there’s a round of terminations.

Shopping experiences at that particular store can differ in the extremes. You could try Future Shop (though it is owned by Best Buy anyway), because they’re on commission there. The only issue is that they’ll probably try to sell you any piece of crap.
