So, Murph trundled off for his first international adventure ever, leaving me alone for the weekend, which I was looking forward to, until I discovered some missing food. In my family, we have a saying: “Don’t Get Mad – Get Even.”

On Wednesday, Dizzle offered to bring me along to the pre-screening of ‘PUSH’ – a movie I got excited about when I saw the first theatrical trailers months ago. I don’t know how I knew, but I knew, that I HAD to see this film. It was everything I wanted it to be, and everything I needed it to be, plus a little extra awesome. I don’t want to give away too much, but this movie accomplishes more in two hours than ‘Heroes’ could in three seasons. It tells a rich, generational story that’s a little Oceans 11, A little Die Hard, A little minority report, and a little of all the best superhero movies out there. It admits that the premise is very similar to that of the first season of Heroes (ordinary people with extraordinary powers, hunted and haunted by a shady government organization) – but beyond ‘premise’ these two properties are nothing alike.

When I first watched Heroes, I saw tons of potential for great stories that got me really excited. However, the writers of that show fumbled and failed, and ultimately broke my little fanboy heart by being miserable story tellers. I was excited about the premise of the show (see above), because I’ve never been a real ‘costumed hero’ collector. But this spoke to me, and I clung on as long as I could in the third season before abandoning it. And literally, I dumped that one, turned around and PUSH showed up. And it was everything I wanted Heroes to be, and more.

So, go see it.

In other news, I totally want to put out a public shout out to Steve (aka unobserved, aka ‘The Wizard’) and Katie, for the delicious jam they gave me. It is delicious. Addictively so. The Rhubarb Berry is my favorite, but the Cran Anana is surprisingly good as well. Thanks so much!
