I always just viewed them as a minimalistic form. Noses are weird things and can be hard to do accurately. Which is why I don't draw them. As far as character presence, I'd have to say I'm pretty happy with it all, backgrounds are good in my book. As for the frequency, all web comic readers wish that their favorite comics would update more frequently. To the point of insanity. It's nice when it happens sooner, but I don't NEED it.
