One of the things I will never understand about internet dating, or social networks, or whatever, is people posting pictures that are clearly not accurate. Either they grossly understate their height, use pictures from 10 years ago, or utilize the dreaded “Myspace Angle” to hide their real body type. I mean, I know I’m pretty dumb, and Jamie’s even dumber, but give us some credit. We’re going to know the jig is up when we meet. It’s kind of obvious. Like any other form of social interaction, the lies are going to come out, so don’t bother.
Enough of that jibber-jabber though (I can NOT stop saying Jibber-Jabber). Something more important is happening today. Something that comes about only once every 5 or 6 years. Something that has the potential to change lives.
Metallica have a new album out today.
It’s called Death Magnetic, which is a reference to many of their friends who have succumbed to the pull of the “rock star” life style and died.
From the opening track That Was Just Your Life, to the blistering closer My Apocalypse, the album just absolutely melts face. It’s fast, hard and heavy, just like Metallica should be. Even the slowest tune, The Unforgiven III (and before anyone freaks out, it’s a continuation of the character from The Unforgiven, not a re-working or re-write of the same song) has a heaviness in feeling that matches up to the scorching riffs of other standouts like The Judas Kiss, and All Nightmare Long. There’s even an instrumental track, Suicide and Redemption, which hasn’t happened since 1988’s …And Justice For All.
I am so stoked to be able to get this album. Only one question remains: do I go with the standard packaging, or go for the deluxe Coffin-Shaped Box Set? The Box Set has the album, another full CD of Demos, a DVD with a “making of” documentary, a t-shirt only available in this box, a flag, guitar picks, and a fold out poster along with a collector’s credit card embossed with a code to redeem a free download of a special European show happening in September. It’s pretty enticing…
Sometimes it’s rough being me.
