When I think of the maidens we have stumbled across in this little trek through the world of Intraweb Match-Making, Lauren is my favourite. I have often wanted to use her line when meeting people for the first time. Also, I know I could own her in a music discussion.
Sadly, I can’t really think about all that right now though. It’s been too trying a day. This afternoon, word came over the news wire. It was just one sentence:
Patriots QB Tom Brady requires knee surgery, out for the season.
Out. For. The. Season.
With those four words, the entire collective known as Patriots Nation fell to our knees and cursed the Gods.
Quickly, I rushed to the internet to see if anyone had performed a successful ACL-Transplant. I would gladly donate mine. I mean, let’s be honest, I’m not using it, and it’s probably in pristine condition. Sadly though, my efforts were futile.
Is this the end? Is all hope lost? Will my stacks of frozen “Sunday” pizzas go uneaten? Nay my friends, nay. A team is not one man, a team is the sum of its parts, and New England has many other parts that are still firing. Moss. Bruschi. Light. Wilfork. The list goes on.
And Cassel? Little Matty Cassel who has backed up Brady effectively for the last three seasons? Well, we’ll have to see. He played well this week when he had to step into the big man’s shoes, and he’s getting the start next week to show us all what he’s got against Brett Farve 2.0.
No matter the outcome though, don’t expect this team to lie down. Ye of little faith will be eating crow when the dust settles, as the Patriot Nation is on the move.
Look to our coming on the first light of the fifth day (from Tuesday), at dawn look to the (AFC) east.
For Brad-o!
