You know, they never tell you anywhere in the manuals for all that gear to allot a certain amount of time for preparation. I think some kind of warning is in order because what would happen if the average person needed to suit up for battle in an “end of the world” scenario? I mean, the world would end before the pants were on! We need to act now, or else we could be looking at the end of the world as we know it!!
So I had an interesting night on Friday. Late Thursday, I received an e-mail from CTV Newsnet, a national news station up here in The Frozen North. They were looking to interview someone about the San Diego Comic Con that was on last weekend, and found me through The Watchtower site. Being the attention whore that I am, I readily agreed and was told the time and place to be at the studios for my interview.
I arrived and was told to come up to the 10th floor. What they didn’t tell me was that I needed a swipe card to get off on the 10th, so I ended up riding the elevator for a bit until a security guard let me in. I was spared the makeup routine and taken to a green room to wait for my turn in front of the camera.
It was a very surreal experience, as they sat me down behind a desk that was on a raised platform in their newsroom. Since it was after 6pm though, the pace was empty, so it was just me. There was a monitor with me on it, and that was it. I was essentially talking only to me. The producer gave me a mic and an earpiece, and I was connected to the other studios where the anchor and engineers were. It was at this point I found out the interview was going to be live, and not taped as I had previously thought.
After I regained consciousness, and a producer had mopped up the mess I made, we got into it. The interview was good, but it was very weird talking to a monitor that had only me on it.
After my segment was done, they ushered me out and told me that it was going to repeat in about half an hour. It was at this point that the colour returned to my face, and I was able to breathe again. They promised to send me a copy of the interview, so once we get that it’ll be uploaded so I can share my 2 Minutes and 33 seconds of fame with you all.
Until then though, I’ll stop typing before you stop reading. I hope…
