OK.
I’m not going to lie to you. What you are about to read is something that I wrote last night, and has also appeared on our sister site The Watchtower. Now, I am not trying to cop-out here, but I thought it was such a fun idea that I wanted to share it with you guys.
Also, I have a killer headache and need to lie down.
Music is a huge part of my life. I am rarely with out the 4000+ songs my iPod is currently stuffed with, and there are CDs and records all over my house. I love the way music can affect an accent life, especially in movies and TV shows.
Well, I thought to myself, why not in comics too? Comics are serialized forms of storytelling, and they have dramatic moments, romantic interludes, and comedic breaks just like any other storytelling medium. So, why not have a soundtrack for comic books? I know that music and comics have been tied together before (most recently, Scottish hardcore band So She Said contributed two songs to the “soundtrack” for Kick-Ass), so why not a full-out soundtrack for a series or graphic novel?
So, for fun, I pulled out some of my favourite graphic novels and records, and tried to marry the two. I started off with somewhat of an easy one, but here’s what I came up with:
Music From and Inspired By: Preacher
1. The Ecstasy of Gold - Ennio Morricone
2. Take This Job And Shove It - Johnny Paycheck
3. Fortunate Son - Dropkick Murphys
4. Come As You Are - Nirvana
5. When The Man Comes Around - Johnny Cash
6. Saturday Night’s All Right For Fighting - Elton John
7. The War - Lucero
8. Don’t You think This Outlaw Bit’s Done Got Out of Hand - James Hetfield
9. The Wild Rover - Dropkick Murphys
10. The Time of The Preacher - Willie Nelson
So there it is. Ennis and Dillon’s Preacher is one of my favourite books of all times. It combines westerns, punk-rockers, love stories, and unstoppable killing machines into one wonderfully violent 9-book set. I tried to do the same with it’s “soundtrack,” and hopefully I got it right.
Now, on The Watchtower site, I asked people to come up with their favourite comic’s soundtrack. Here though, I want you guys to come up with the NO REASON soundtrack. I’m gonna do the same, and post in in a little while, but I am really curious to see what you guys some up with. 10 songs, why you chose them, and how they fit into No Reason. The really good ones might find themselves with some swag heading their way too.
Until then, rock out!
