I am not the only one that was fooled, I swear. Also, there is something oddly… freeing about wearing uber-short shorts. Also also, to my sweaty friends out there, wrist and headbands are a great way to combat the flop sweat that we all have to deal with during those long summer months. It’s like instant absorption, I swear.

Wow, there is a lot of stuff going on around ol’HQ. We are running around like madmen getting everything in order for May 3rd, and Free Comic Book Day. It’s going to be a really good time, free swag to be had by all, and we hope like hell that you can make it there! Here are the details one more time:

“Jeff, Donnie, and Dan originally of noreasoncomics.com, are ready to meet you at the 2008 IMAGE COLLECTIONS Free Comic Book Day Event on May 3rd at 181a Queen Street South in MISSISSAUGA (near, but not in, Toronto, Canada). “

The Festivities kick off after 9:30am, we’ll be in the house by then or shortly there after, and it’s a great way to kick off summer, and convention season. Also, I should mention that it’s an all day event, so for those of you who don’t like to get up early… or work overnights… and say you will be too tired to make it… even though it’s around the corner from where you live…. you know who you are… there will be plenty of time to swing by and check out the scene. And it’s us, so you know we will be making a scene.

In the midst of all the chaos though, I did manage to make it out to an event I’ve dreamed of for a very, very long time. One of my favourite bands of all time is a quartet from Memphis called Lucero. They are an incredible band who will never get the credit they deserve. As my good friend put it Saturday night, “they are the band that will define us… and the world will never know.” Fusing country and punk rock, Lucero have only been to Canada once that I know of in the last few years. Until this past weekend.

We all squeezed into the legendary Horseshoe Tavern, which incidentally is the perfect place to see any band, particularly one of Lucero’s ilk, and the music was infectious. We all rocked, rolled, sang, and sobbed as each tear-stained, beer laced song came at us from the stage. Then, after the set the band was nice enough to hang out with those still in the bar. I spent some time chatting with Roy, the drummer, and it was as if we were old friends. We talked about the show, music, records we had, tattoos, and just kinda jawed about stuff as if we were on someone’s front porch on a spring night. It was incredibly refreshing to meet a group of musicians who were so humble and down to earth. Truly a magical night.

On this night however, I gotta be honest: I’m freakin’ exhausted. It’s been a long day, and coupled with my springtime allergies, I can barely see straight. That said, I’m pretty sure everything I’ve typed here makes sense. If it doesn’t, then I apologize. Stay tuned though, in a few short days I promise to not only be more lucid, but to finally name the winner of our Name That Ulcer Contest.

Until then, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…………
